About Us

For over 50 years the game of Stickball has been an important team sport in cities throughout the United States, but especially in New York where the poor working class and youth of our communities have played the game and in the process strengthen their personal relationships.

World Series of Stickball
Stickball Community Gallery

Of all the games that rose from the streets of the City, none carry more mystique and legend than stickball. Adapted from and closely linked to baseball, stickball, transformed the urban landscape into a dramatic stage where great competitions were played, remembered and retold.

No game could be more local. Your street became the ballfield. Lamp posts, car doors and manhole covers were recast into bases. Your neighborhood was the stadium and your neighbors were the fans, adding commentary from field level seats (the building stoops) or from windows and fire escapes that comprised the "upper decks."

The actual Stickball Hall of Fame is located at the World Series of Stickball Community Gallery. Here, we will tell the story of the athletes and teams honored.

In addition to focusing on the players and games.
